Underrated Fashion Trends That Deserve a Comeback

Fashion is cyclical, and while some trends take center stage, others fade into the background—only to resurface years later. A Redditor made the discussion about it and highlighted underrated fashion trends that deserve a comeback:

1. Brooches Brooches used to be a staple accessory, adding a touch of elegance to coats, blouses, and even hats. While they may seem vintage, they can be styled in modern ways to enhance any outfit.

Top Comment:

I’m single-handedly trying to bring brooches back.

Replies:

  • I sometimes will have one pinned to a coat or at the neck of a collared shirt, but I wish they fit with more things. IMO the problem is partly about fashion, but really is more about how most modern clothing uses fabric that is too thin to stand up to pins without quickly tearing/drooping under the weight.
  • I always wear a tank top under my shirts, so that helps to give it the added weight to put the pin through. And if you’re a bra-wearing person, I use the strap sometimes to put the pin through. But sometimes it still makes the material look bad.
  • We all should! I feel we lose our accessories somewhere to make us seem more sophisticated? But it somehow sucks the liveliness or personality out of an outfit.

2. Celebrities Dressing Relatable on Red Carpets Remember when red carpet fashion had personality? Stars used to mix designer pieces with their own unique touches, but today, most looks feel overly styled and lack individuality.

Comment:

Celebs being relatable was so cool! Like Kate Moss, MK Olsen— all the inspirations of the day were really casual in their street pics but they had STYLE (and money, lol).

Replies:

  • Now, even pap pics are super stylized and so boring, and no one seems to have proper style anymore.
  • Bella Hadid, for example: she always seems to step out completely dressed by a team. (But it’s also the case for everyone now lol).
  • And the worst is that even the red carpets are very boring most of the time. It’s just complete looks straight out of the catwalk, and while it’s pretty, it’s never properly accessorized or made personal.

3. Leather Gloves Leather gloves were a sign of sophistication and elegance, perfect for cold-weather outfits. They make a statement while being both practical and stylish.

Comment:

I need glam rock fashion to come back like I need oxygen to breathe.

4. Graphic Tanks and Tees Graphic tanks and tees used to dominate streetwear, adding personality and fun to everyday outfits. With modern fashion leaning towards minimalism, these expressive pieces deserve a revival.

Comment:

I love a brooch and would also bring back statement necklaces! The collars, the bubbles: I want them all! Looking back at photos, I don’t think they look dated overall and I think with some tweaking they could be brought into the mainstream.

Replies:

  • I also came here to say brooches… I sometimes will have one pinned to a coat or at the neck of a collared shirt, but I wish they fit with more things. IMO the problem is partly about fashion, but really is more about how most modern clothing uses fabric that is too thin to stand up to pins without quickly tearing/drooping under the weight.

Why They Should Come Back:

  • Adds a playful, personal touch to outfits
  • Easy to dress up or down
  • A great way to support artists and independent brands

The Case for Personal Style Over Trendy Uniformity

One of the biggest concerns in modern fashion is the loss of individuality. In an era where everyone follows the same influencer-inspired aesthetic, many are longing for the return of distinct, personal styles. Trends like brooches, statement jewelry, and more expressive outfits allow people to stand out rather than blend in.

Bringing these underrated trends back isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about reviving what makes fashion fun, personal, and expressive. What trends do you want to see make a comeback?
